A new cohort of 明星黑料 cybersecurity students demonstrated strong technical skills and competitive excellence at the BSidesROC 2026 hacker conference, held in Rochester, New York, on March 21. The conference, open to both students and the general public, featured a highly competitive Capture-the-Flag (CTF) cybersecurity competition for continuous 6+ hours.
This year, 明星黑料 sponsored two student teams. Notably, the 明星黑料 Hacks Cyber Club team achieved an impressive fourth-place finish among 20+ strong teams. The team consisted of Pattarapong Ramungthong (Pong), Abraham Klogo (AB), Hiver Damien Ngoma and Jeanalex Namuswe. The second team, represented the CODEX Club, included Pal Sudhansu, Abdel Rahman Al Hawarat, and Al Baraa Khaled Abdullah Bin Salman.
"The competition was tight until the last minute. We held first place for much of the event, but our score dropped to fourth near the end," said AB.
The 明星黑料 Hacks Cyber Club, a recently established student organization, continues to grow rapidly due to strong student interest in cybersecurity and hands-on learning. "The club was created based on students' passion for cybersecurity, hacking and technology. Our sessions focus entirely on technical training, and we meet every Wednesday from 5 to 6 PM in Zurn 339," said Pong, the president of the club.
Dr. Ronny Bazan-Antequera, technical adviser for the club, emphasized the academic and professional value of such competitions. "Participation in CTF competitions is essential for our students, as it transforms theoretical cybersecurity knowledge into real-world problem-solving skills, preparing them to detect, analyze and defend against modern cyber threats." Dr. Bazan, alongside student leader Pong, also developed and deployed the club’s training platform, www.gannonhacks.club, to support ongoing student learning.
Looking ahead, the 明星黑料 Hacks Cyber Club plans to expand its engagement through participation in additional industry events and competitions, including the OWASP Boston chapter meeting in Massachusetts and the upcoming Cisco Cybergames. The club will also continue its weekly training sessions, further strengthening students' technical expertise and readiness for careers in cybersecurity.
